The dabber rig nail is the most important part of a dabber dig that reflects the most on performance and reliability. After a few months of many dabbing sessions, you will notice a slight discoloration of the metal. This is from a result of carbon build up from consistent use, which is normal, as it always gets heated up that can cause broken oil particulates to be left behind. Whether you use a titanium, quartz or ceramic hardware, you will still require at some point to clean the dabber nail. Thankfully, cleaning the nail is very simple and there are many methods available that have been tested. If you have not cleaned it at all before, then the scrape method is probably best, however, if you regularly clean it giving it a quick wash would be fine. Now let’s go through the different methods. If you want a dabber that lasts, you need to consider the Dabbing pro, as maintenance is very minimal with it, so please visit the site to read more about it.
Method 1
If the dab rig nail is not gunked up, then all it needs is probably a quick wash. Dismantle the dabber nail from the hardware and place it into isopropyl alcohol solution for around 10 to 15 minutes. I would recommend that you place the solution into a container and let the dabber nail sit inside it. This will ensure that you get a deep clean and help break down hard to reach particles that have built up inside. Once you have allowed sufficient time for the dabber rig to be soaked up, I would recommend that you rinse it a few times under cold water to ensure that all of the cleaning solutions have been removed successfully. This method should be used on a weekly basis to prevent hard surface residue being built up and making it more difficult to clean later.
Method 2
Scraping off any small build-up of residue from wax oil based concentrates placed on the dabber nail is another good method that you should consider. I find that an object such as a paper clip can work wonders when trying to scrape away gathering or particles. To remove any minor, build up, simply using your object keep scraping until it becomes no longer apparent. Keep doing this until you are happy with the results. Once you have finished, giving it a quick wash under the sink would be ideal. If you still notice strong amounts of carbon build up, you may need to proceed with the next method.
Method 3
Heat provides a great easy and effective method of effortless cleaning. For titanium based dabber rig nails, simply use your torch to burn off any residual carbon. With quartz and ceramic nails, you have got to be more careful, as if you heat them up too quickly it can cause them to crack, due to the rapid change in temperature. Once you have torched the nail to a point where it's red-hot, allow it to cool down and use something such as a flat head screwdriver to scrape off any particles. Remember to NOT use your hands, as it can be still hot and use an object instead. This method is used when the build-up is beyond regular cleaning.
