What are the different cannabinoids and what they do?

Cannabinoids are chemical substances that are currently studied with great interest because they provide various benefits that improve the health conditions of people who suffer pain or suffer from serious diseases.

The word cannabinoids refer to substances that have effects similar to those produced by the Cannabis sativa plant, but not all of them come from the marijuana plant.

Currently, there are three types of cannabinoids:

· Phytocannabinoids: natural, from the plant of Cannabis sativa.

· Endogenous cannabinoids: produced in the human body.

· Synthetic cannabinoids: produced in the laboratory.

Canna Cribs is an ongoing documentary series produced by the Growers Network that shows you the most advanced cannabis grow sites in the world. One of the best-known cannabinoids is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which gives the psychoactive effect to marijuana. But in recent times other cannabinoids, such as the CBD, have gained great popularity due to their diverse medical applications and the benefits that they bring.

The phytocannabinoids are the natural cannabinoids that are produced in the Cannabis plant. So far, at least 104 cannabinoids have been identified in the marijuana or cannabis plant (Cannabis sativa). We will talk about the most common ones here:

THC

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the main psychoactive component of Cannabis. Its therapeutic use is analgesic since it relieves moderate pain and is neuroprotective. This cannabinoid is the subject of numerous studies because it produces various effects that could be beneficial in the treatment of various diseases, such as Alzheimer's.

CBD

CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that provides various health benefits, especially in the relief of pain and the symptoms of various diseases. CBD is used to relieve chronic pain, reduce inflammation and the incidence of various ailments and diseases, such as arthritis, diabetes, depression, anxiety and to reduce the side effects of certain medications and therapies.

CBN

CBN (cannabinol) is not usually found much in the Cannabis plant and is produced by the degradation of THC. This is a mild psychoactive (approximately 10% of the THC's potency). Its therapeutic use is analgesic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immunosuppressant.

THCV

THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin) is found only in some varieties of Cannabis. This cannabinoid is a THC antagonist and increases or attenuates its psychoactive effects. Commonly the THC / THCV ratio determines the effect of appetite stimulation caused by Cannabis.

CBG

CBG (cannabigerol) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that is found in greater amounts in hemp than is used for textiles. Cannabiderol has antibiotic properties, it is analgesic, it reduces pain, inflammation and blood coagulation, among others.

CBC

CBC (cannabicyromen) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that increases the analgesic effect of THC and promotes relaxation. This is another of the rare phytocannabinoids that are the object of study, as it could provide multiple benefits in the treatment of various ailments and health problems.

Final considerations

Due to the positive opinions of patients and the regulation of therapeutic cannabis around the world, it is possible that they continue advancing studies to discover new benefits of cannabinoids. Let us keep an eye on the advances of science in regards to cannabinoids.
