If you are getting dry hits or a burnt cotton taste when vaping, that is a common sign that the coil needs to be changed on your SMOK branded vape tank. Now depending on the type of tank you have by SMOK, coil prices will be different. On the smaller older tanks such as the TFV8 baby, coils will be noticeably cheaper than coils for the TFV12 Prince tank. Coils can get expensive if you are not priming and installing them correctly. You also want to ensure that you purchase 100% original coils for your vape tank. There are a lot of sellers on eBay or Amazon that claim to sell original genuine SMOK coils for half the price. The cheap coils that are found online are usually to be avoided, the ones that go for a few quid more will give you the peace of mind that they are most likely going to be original. I have at one point purchased fake coils, a pack of 5 TFV8 coils for $10 just to try them out. Immediately, I noticed that they didn't screw in properly and I experienced leaking with my SMOK tank. If you are wondering how it vaped, it was total crap the whole time, no flavor with my favorite premium dinner lady brand e-juice and dry hits after 100 puffs. Overall, fakes coils are to avoid and you should only purchase from places you know about. Also to add to that, only 3 coils worked out of the pack of 5, 2 coils said atomizer short on my device. Search for vape shop near me if you want only 100% real vape coils.
Another thing to know is not all coils fit all tanks. For example, the TFV12 baby coils fit the TFV8 baby beast, however, the original TFV12 coils won't fit the newer TFV12 prince. So always check before buying coils what they are for. I once purchased accidentally a pack of TFV8 cloud beast coils that were not for my baby tank, which is the smaller version. However, I donated these to a friend of mine, who was more than happy to take them, as I didn’t want them to go to waste.
Once you have got your pack of brand new coils, it’s time to install them. Fitting a brand-new coil in your SMOK tank is very easy. However, it’s how you do it that is the most important part. I have seen youngsters (18+) come into my shop stating that they keep getting dry hits with every new coil they use. Looking at the cotton inside the coil through the glass of the tank, I identified that the coil had never been primed before use. I then asked the university students at the shop if they have primed the coils before use and they said they have never heard of it! Ow no. Priming, a brand-new coil is very important because you are giving the coil a chance to soak up the e-juice before it goes to work. If you don't prime it, the white fluffy cotton stuffed inside the coil will not be wet enough for the first time vape. So, when you hit the fire button, instead of heating up the eliquid, you will be heating up the cotton. Once you have burned the dry cotton, the taste will never go away and you will have no choice but to try again with another coil. When it comes to installing and priming a new coil for your SMOK vape tank there are no shortcuts, you will have to do it the proper way. This guide will tell you everything you need to know.
Installing the new coil in any SMOK tank is the same process across the there entire range. Feel free to use this guide for any SMOK branded vape tank.
You might find this useful when taking the tank apart with the instructions below. |
1) Things can get slightly messy, so it’s best to head over the kitchen sink. Start by unscrewing the vape tank 'Anticlockwise' twisting it all the way until the glass comes off the bottom part of the tank.
2) Pull the glass from the top part of the vape tank as well. You should have the bottom, top, and glass into three different pieces now.
3) Hold the coil from the top and turn it 'Anticlockwise' until unscrews itself from the base. Wash all the metal parts, including the glass under cold water and dry using gentle care with a towel. You don't want the metal parts to have the previous e-juice in, as the last thing you want to do is mix flavors with a brand-new coil as it will mess up the taste.
4) Place your new coil into the base, making sure its straight and screw it 'Clockwise'. Keep screwing it that way until you get a nice tight fit. But remember don't over tighten it, as it will become a problem later when you must change the coil in your SMOK vape tank again.
5) Now you have installed the brand-new coil in your SMOK tank, you will need to prime it for the first time. Priming is very easy, as all you need to do is wet the coil with eliquid for the first time. Simply, place a few drops of e-juice into each wicking hole that is placed around the outer part of the coil and also pour a few drops of e-liquid into the coil as well. Some users have reported that if you poke a few holes into the cotton around the coil, it will speed up the process of the coil wicking, so it something you may consider trying to make your SMOK coils last longer with your e cigarettes.
6) Once you have primed the coil, it’s time to construct the vape tank back together. Place the glass back onto the upper part of the vape tank. Then place the glass over the bottom part of the tank, so the coil connects into the middle chimney from the top part and begin to screw 'Clockwise'. Keep screwing this direction until its tightened. Again, to go overboard and tighten the tank too much.
7) All you need to do is wait 10 minutes before using the vape tank. This will provide enough time for the vape tank's coil to soak up the juice. If you use your device beforehand, you can risk burning out the coil.
